What is Acupuncture?

acupuncture Acupuncture is an ancient art of healing that has been practised in China and other Eastern countries for thousands of years. It involves the insertion of needles into certain points in the body and is used for a wide variety of modern day problems, usually surrounding musculoskeletal pain and injury, by stimulating certain parts of the nervous system and brain. Acupuncture causes certain reactions in the body, such as natural chemicals being released, which result in a reduction in pain.

Each individual will display different symptoms and therefore the Acupuncturist will tailor their treatment to specific signs and symptoms, creating a personalised treatment plan for each individual.

Why use Acupuncture?

During ill health, energy flows can become stagnated. These motivating energy flows, known as Qi in Chinese philosophy, play a large part in the general health of an individual. The insertion of fine needles in certain points of the body stimulates this flow of energy helping to restore natural balance and harmony in body and mind.

Acupuncture is often used alongside other more traditional therapies such as Physiotherapy or Osteopathy to promote the healing process by helping to reduce pain and providing an increase in overall well-being of the patient.

Some people that do not even like needles find the whole experience very relaxing.
